Babies need toys
While I highly recommend trains, R/C vehicles, race tracks, Nintendo Wii, it is probably more appropriate to buy one of the following gifts.  Make sure to give a gift to the baby once they are born, and make it a legacy item that they will keep through their childhood and may treasure and give to their own child.

Bungee the Dog

Kids love things they can pull on, bite, smack around... aww, the joys of being a baby ;)  This is a great development toy designed for newborns through 1 year and can be hung from a crib, car seat or pretty much anywhere that you need to occupy your little one.

Teething on the Go

This little activity item works as a teether and play toy that hangs from just about anywhere.  It is intended to keep your childs eyes moving and developing hand eye coordination.

Mobiles of Today

Littles ones like movement and music, remember that their first 9 months was not in a soundproof cell.  They had to listen to the heartbeat, intestine and had to deal with movement and pressure from all over.  It's a wonder they make it through all that.  So it's perfectly fine to give them things that move, make noise, shakes...they love it!
